−WAKANA−

CONCEPT

CONCEPT

Wakana is a kimono rental shop in Asakusa,
within walking distance of Senso-ji Temple and Kaminarimon Gate.

We began with a wish to see more people enjoying the streets of Kyoto in beautiful kimono. Holding on to that same vision, we have now moved to Asakusa, where Japanese tradition lives alongside the warm character of old Tokyo.
Through kimono, we hope to bring more color to Asakusa and create lasting memories. Every experience is thoughtfully tailored to the individual guest.

At Wakana, we focus on quality Japanese-made kimono, including silk with a soft, elegant sheen, and curate designs with a refined look.

Our obi are tied in the classic otaiko style for an elegant look from behind, a favorite among guests of all ages who appreciate authentic styling. Arrive empty-handed, change into kimono with ease, and enjoy Asakusa through the seasons.

Kind and attentive service

Everyone was kind and highly professional. They were able to assist me in English, which made the whole experience reassuring. I recommend Wakana to anyone who wants to experience Japanese culture in Asakusa.

Married couple in their 30s

Thank you!

I’m 30 and booked the Couple Plan. I love renting kimono and have tried it several times in Asakusa, Kanazawa and Kyoto. Some shops only had kimono that felt inexpensive, which was disappointing. Wakana offered a pure-silk plan, so I hoped it would be different—and choosing this shop was absolutely the right decision. Even though we visited later in the afternoon, I found an elegant, understated kimono, and the otaiko obi knot was beautiful. The dressing and hairstyling staff worked efficiently and were all lovely.

Couple in their 20s

Every member of staff was wonderful!

This was my first visit to this rental shop. I’ve rented kimono several times before, but this was easily my favorite. Different staff members helped us choose our kimono, get dressed and style our hair, and every one of them was wonderful. They kept us smiling throughout. The kimono was secured so well that it stayed in place for our entire day of sightseeing. At the end, they gave us a photo with a handwritten message, which was truly touching. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

Mother in her 50s and son in his 20s

Kimono as a family

My son, in his 20s, and I, in my 50s, wore kimono together. We thought we might be late for our reservation, so we called ahead and received a very courteous response. Once we arrived, the team dressed us efficiently and made tasteful suggestions for the obi and obijime combinations. We were very pleased. They also took a commemorative photo and gave us the digital file, leaving us with a wonderful memory. Thank you very much.
